We are seeking an experienced Process Engineer to support our growing Nitinol operations and lead the development of laser workstation processes.

 

The Lightspeed Product Engineer will play a critical role in design, developing, and transitioning medical device applications from prototype to production, with a focus on Nitinol processing (laser cutting, heat setting, and electropolishing) and laser workstation development. This position involves working directly with customers to extract relevant technical data, developing manufacturing processes, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and transfer of Nitinol manufacturing processes, including laser cutting, shape-setting (heat treatment), and electropolishing, to meet part and system quality requirements.
  • Perform complex setups and process development on laser workstations, ensuring manufacturability and compliance.
  • Act as a project lead, driving eligible processes through the transition from development to production.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to develop processes that integrate lean concepts, ergonomics, throughput, and product quality.
  • Write technical protocols, reports, and comprehensive manufacturing procedures; assist Quality Engineering with Validation protocols and reports.
  • Participate in customer communication and review incoming orders for applicability to existing capabilities, suggesting alternatives where necessary.
  • Provide technical skill training to laser operators and mentor other technical staff.
  • Support Sales by completing quotes and participating in sales support activities, including presentations, customer visits, and technical seminars.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks, work across several departments, and lead cross-departmental teams in continuous improvement processes.
  • Develop or assist in design, costing, training, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Generate and update setup sheets, work instructions, and CAPAs as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering/Science discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 – 5  years' experience in a manufacturing environment in an engineering role.
  • Proficient in generating machine motion control programs (e.g., G-Code) and using multiple axis motion controllers.
  • Familiarity with ISO Quality Systems, particularly in medical device manufacturing.
  • Strong ability to create and troubleshoot programs for inspection devices and other auxiliary equipment.
  • Proficient in generating 2D and 3D CAD drawings and models using GD&T, with the ability to read and understand engineering drawings within a GD&T system.
  • Ability to present and convey complex engineering ideas to both internal and external customers.
  • Proficient in the use of optical inspection equipment, including magnifiers, microscopes, and measuring devices.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to create job-related documentation for quality purposes.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and quickly adapt to changing priorities and processes.

Compensation

Pay Range: $80,000-100,000
