This role works within the Maintenance Department, reporting to the Maintenance Manager. The role focuses on repairing and performing preventive maintenance on tools, fixtures, and equipment to ensure efficient, precise, and cost-effective manufacturing that meets customer and product specifications.

 

This can be on our 1st shift (6:00am-4:30pm) or 2nd shift (2pm-12:30am) (Monday-Thursday)

Responsibilities

  • Perform fabrication tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Interpret CAD models, blueprints, and sketches to build or modify tools and equipment.
  • Conduct repairs and preventive maintenance on various tooling and fixtures.
  • Provide technical feedback to improve reliability and yield.
  • Support troubleshooting and improvement projects across departments.
  • Operate tool room equipment (e.g., grinders, mills, lathes, drill presses).
  • Document work and perform rework on worn/damaged parts.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of machining and fabrication experience
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and adaptability.
  • Proficiency in reading engineering drawings using GD&T.
  • Capable of creating job-related documentation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and other PC-based design/manufacturing software.
  • Ability to generate 2D/3D CAD drawings using GD&T.
  • Journeyman certification is preferred.
  • Strong presentation skills for conveying engineering concepts.

Physical Demands

The toolmaker position requires regular physical activity including standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout the workday. Must be able to lift and carry materials and tools weighing up to 50 pounds. Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination are essential for precise toolmaking tasks. Visual acuity is required for reading blueprints and inspecting parts. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in designated areas.

 

This position operates in a machine shop environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts, metal shavings, lubricants, and industrial noise. The workspace is typically well-lit and ventilated but may be subject to fluctuating temperatures. Employees are required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes. The role involves standing for long periods, working near others, and occasionally handling heavy materials or equipment.

Compensation

The compensation for this role is competitive and will be based on experience and qualifications. The anticipated range is $27.00 - $38.00/hour.
