The Environmental, Health and Safety Engineer has overall responsibility for safety programs and environmental compliance of the site.  The Engineer will achieve/maintain applicable environmental permits and registrations in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations and serve as primary point of contact for relevant communications and/or audits.  The individual will oversee hazardous materials on site as well as the waste stream out of the site. The Engineer will work closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations on a continual basis to improve safety and reduce the site TRIR metric.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and monitor Environmental, Health and Safety programs in order to achieve targets and objectives Oversee quotation activities including cost estimation and lead time development
  • Maintain site safety/environmental compliance calendars
  • Coordinate environmental samples, lab analysis and reporting
  • Develop and coordinate site safety and environmental training programs
  • Coordinate, complete and record accident investigation reports including recordable injuries, nonrecordable injuries and near misses and coordinate corrective actions to promote continuous improvement of site
  • Prepare environmental compliance records for submittal to regulatory agencies including annual Hazardous Waste Reports, Hazardous Waste Reduction Reports, SARA Tier II reporting and SWPPP reporting.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations to increase site safety through equipment, tooling and process improvements.
  • Develop and monitor waste management procedures including disposal (according to applicable laws) and recycling / re-use.
  • Manage all aspects and requirements of OSHA reporting and compliance
  • Assist with managing hazardous waste and controlled waste shipments per regulations
  • Maintain necessary environmental permits/registrations
  • Facilitate regulatory inspections as auditee representing facility (Hazardous Waste, Air Emissions, OSHA, etc…)

Required Qualifications

  • BS degree in a technical field, preferably engineering/life sciences or equivalent direct work experience.
  • Prior experience working with hazardous materials including environmental permitting/reporting and waste stream management
  • Experience with safety / environmental auditing and experience as auditee during environmental and safety regulatory audits.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or 13485
  • Familiarity with contract manufacturing, ISO and FDA quality system requirements, medical device and diagnostics manufacturing.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work long hours when necessary and to have a presence with a 24/7 operation.
  • International travel not required

Compensation

The compensation for this role is competitive and will be based on experience and qualifications. The anticipated range is $62,000 - $77,000/year.
