Overview

The Senior Buyer is responsible for the strategic sourcing, procurement, and cost management of materials, components, and services that support the manufacturing of medical devices and precision assemblies. This role is essential in ensuring an efficient, compliant, and cost-effective supply chain that meets regulatory and quality standards of the medical device industry.
The Senior Buyer collaborates closely with Engineering, Quality, Production, Planning, R&D and Finance to align procurement activities with business goals and operational excellence.

In addition to individual procurement responsibilities, the Senior Buyer will lead and mentor buyer/s, overseeing daily purchasing operations to ensure efficiency, compliance, and adherence to company and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies aligned with organizational goals, focusing on supplier rationalization, cost reduction, risk management, and innovation.
  • Identify, evaluate and select suppliers based on quality, cost, reliability, and service. Negotiate prices and manage supplier relationships to ensure value and performance excellence.
  • Lead sourcing for assigned categories, including RFQ processes, supplier negotiations, and contract execution. Ensure timely material availability for BOM items.
  • Conduct market research and analysis to assess market trends, supplier capabilities, and pricing. Use insights for strategic decisions.
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives through strategic sourcing, demand management, and process optimization. Identify opportunities for cost reduction and drive the cost saving process to achieve the target.
  • Perform in-depth analysis of Bills of Materials (BOMs) to evaluate pricing structures, identify cost drivers, and support cost-reduction initiatives. Collaborate with Engineering and Finance to maintain accurate and optimized cost BOMs.
  • Supervise and mentor other buyer/s in the department, providing guidance on procurement processes, negotiation strategies, and supplier management.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, R&D, Operations and Finance on material selection, design changes, and new product introductions to ensure supplier readiness and cost transparency and to align procurement with business needs. Provide expertise and guidance on procurement-related matters.
  • Define and track KPIs for category and supplier performance. Analyze data and metrics to identify areas for continuous improvement.
  • Drive procurement efficiency through data-based decision-making, supplier development, and process optimization.
  • Demonstrate strong working knowledge of the Priority ERP system, including building, maintaining, and analyzing procurement and cost reports.
    Utilize Priority for purchasing operations, supplier performance tracking, and spend analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Monitor inventory levels, lead times, and supplier performance to ensure uninterrupted production flow and mitigate supply risks. Assess and mitigate risks associated with assigned categories, ensuring business continuity.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier documentation, and audit trails in compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, advising on procurement practices and value creation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, Procurement, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of experience in strategic sourcing or procurement roles (medical device or precision manufacturing industry- advantage), with a track record of success in driving cost savings and process improvements.
  • Experience managing or mentoring purchasing staff.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement principles, practices, and methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical skills with demonstrated expertise to conduct market research, cost analysis, and supplier evaluations.
  • Expertise in BOM pricing analysis, cost modeling, and financial impact assessment.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, problem-solving abilities and managing supplier relationships.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with cross-functional teams and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with the Priority ERP system, including report building and data analysis
  • Proficiency in Excel and other analytical/reporting tools
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and compliance
  • Skilled in coordinating across departments and communicating effectively with internal stakeholders and suppliers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical Devices prior experience
